Ballumbie Hedgehog Rescue was established in July 2022 and became an OSCR-registered charity in April 2024. It is run by volunteers and funded entirely by donations and grants.
We rescue and rehabilitate sick and injured wild European hedgehogs from across Dundee, Angus, and North East Fife. We also work with various other hedgehog rescues as part of the Scottish Hedgehog Rescues Alliance (SHeRA), sharing resources and knowledge in order to help as many hedgehogs as possible across central Scotland. We are members of the British Hedgehog Preservation Society and the British Wildlife Rehabilitation Council.
To date, we have helped hundreds of hedgehogs in our purpose-built facility. For the majority, that means a return to full health and release back to the wild in the area where they were found. For those who don’t make it we provide a warm, comfortable place for their last few days or a compassionate end to suffering with the help of our vets at Parkside Veterinary Group's Barnhill Surgery.
We also engage with local community groups and schools to raise awareness of the issues facing hedgehogs and explain how people can help support Britain’s favourite mammal.
